《PLAYGROUND》 클램프 갤러리는 2022년 도곡동으로 이관하며 개관전으로 작가 베리킴(Berry Kim), 카미(Kami)와 함께 『플레이그라운드(PLAYGROUND)』를 개최한다. 전시에 참여한 두 작가의 작업 세계는 그들이 설립한 일종의 '놀이터' 안에서 구현된다. 클램프 갤러리는 『플레이그라운드(PLAYGROUND)』를 통해 현재 필드에서 활발하게 활동 중인 젊은 작가들이 자신의 생명력, 욕망, 창조적 재능을 분출하기 위해 구축한 '놀이터'에서 낳은 다양한 작품들을 관람객들에게 선보임으로써 예술의 창작자와 수용자가 다 함께 놀 수 있는 공간을 마련하고자 한다. 베리킴_Lower Ground Floor Two_Public Bath_일러스트레이션, 캔버스에 혼합재료_97.5×165cm_2016 베리킴_Lower Ground Floor Two_Public Bath_일러스트레이션, 캔버스에 혼합재료_97.5×165cm_2016 베리킴에게 'PLAYGROUND' 란 모든 것에 경계가 없는 즐거운 '소통의 장'이자 '영혼의 안식처'이다.베리킴은 점점 획일화되어가는 물질만능주의 세상에서 진정한 행복은 SNS 상에서 타자를 의식하여 가공된 허구가 아닌 진정한 '나의 모습'과 스스로의 기준에서 참으로 '가치 있는 것' 그리고 '일상의 관찰'로부터 온다고 말한다. 이에 베리킴은 일상 속에서 발견되는 주변의 것들에게 생명을 불어넣어주고 이들을 특별하게 만들어 줌으로써, 사람들에게 진정한 행복이란 아름다운 외모를 지니거나 강남 빌딩 건물주가 되는 것이 아니라 나에게 가까운 것, 그리고 나로부터 생긴다는 교훈을 전한다. 예를 들어 옷, 신발, 햇님, 강남, 빌딩, 신호등, 시계, 전화기, 식탁, 맥주병, 양말, 가방 등 우리 곁을 묵묵히 지키고 있지만, 시간이 지나면 익숙해지고 싫증나버리는 것들에 작가는 주목한다. 베리킴은 급변하는 사회 속에서 쓸쓸해 보이는 그것들이 어딘가 모르게 그녀와 닮았다고 느꼈다. 그런 그들은 베리킴에게 위로를 주었고, 그녀는 그들에게 눈, 코, 입, 팔, 다리를 달아주고 패션을 입혀주고 생명을 불어넣음으로써 하나의 캐릭터로 창조하며 그녀만의 'PLAYGROUND'를 만들어왔다. 이곳에서 그녀는 작가 자신뿐 아니라 모든 것들로부터 특별함을 느낀다. 베리킴은 틀을 벗어난 그녀 만의 시각에서 탄생한 캐릭터들과 작품들을 매개로 막연한 성공을 갈구하다 지쳐버린 현대인들에게 즐거운 위로의 말을 건네어준다. 베리 킴의 개성과 영혼이 가득한 'PLAYGROUND'에서 모든 이들은 자신의 가능성과 욕망, 한계를 깨닫고 인생의 진정한 가치가 무엇인지 알게 된다. For Berrykim, PLAYGROUND is a playful "communication space" and "soul sanctuary" where everything has no boundaries. In an increasingly homogenized and materialistic world, Berrykim believes that true happiness comes from the "real you" and what is truly "valuable" in one's own eyes and from daily observations, not the fictionalized version of oneself on social media. By giving life to the things around us in our daily lives and making them special, Berrykim teaches people that true happiness comes from what is close to us and from us, not from having a beautiful appearance or being the owner of a Gangnam building. For example, the artist pays attention to the things that are silently by our side, such as clothes, shoes, the sun, Gangnam, buildings, traffic lights, watches, phones, dining tables, beer bottles, socks, and bags, which we get used to and dislike over time. She felt that these seemingly lonely objects in a rapidly changing society somehow resembled her. They gave her comfort, and she gave them eyes, noses, mouths, arms, and legs, dressed them in fashion, and breathed life into them, creating them as characters and creating her own PLAYGROUND. This is where she feels special, not only from herself, but from everything. Through her unconventional characters and creations, Berry Kim offers a joyful word of comfort to those who are tired of chasing vague success. In PLAYGROUND, full of personality and soul, everyone realizes their possibilities, desires, and limitations, and learns what life is truly worth. 카미_Tiger White Edition Gucci Gang_보드에 페이퍼 파인아트 프린트, 네온 튜브_100×100×10cm_2021 카미_Lamborghini Streetfighter_보드에 페이퍼 파인아트 프린트, 네온 튜브_110×230×10cm_2019 카미의 'PLAYGROUND'는 음악과 파인 아트, 디자인 사이의 경계가 무의미한, 보다 자유롭고 무한한 예술의집합 공간이다. 카미의 작업은 2000년대 초 전 세계를 무대로 디제잉을 하던 그가 스프레이 캔, 마커, 컴퓨터 그래픽 등을 활용하여 자신만의 그래픽 시그니처를 개발하는 것에서 시작되었다. 나아가 그의 재능은 다른 아티스트들과 DJ 친구들을 위한 로고와 예술작품, 클럽과 페스티벌을 만드는 데에 사용되었다. 현재 베를린에 기반을 둔 예술 감독이자 디자이너로 활동 중인 카미는 거리 예술 스티커 태그인 'YOU KNOW ME WELL'을 채택하여 그의 작업을 이어 나가고 있다. 그는 팝 컬처와 아시아의 행운의 상징성을 기조로 한 콜라주를 네온 튜브와 결합한다. 카미의 작품에서는 2000년대에 인기를 끌었던 게임 및 만화에 등장한 애니메이션 캐릭터들이 군집을 이루며 결속된다. 작가가 자신의 선호와 취향을 담아 각종 애니메이션 캐릭터들을 잘라내어 콜라주함으로써 새로운 이미지를 창작해내는 작업 방식은 기존의 음원들을 부분적으로 복사하는 샘플링과 그 위에 랩과 효과음을 입혀 이어 붙이는 컷-앤-페이스트 등의 기법을 통해 교배와 혼합을 거쳐 새로운 음악을 만들어 내는 힙합의 창작 미학과 궤를 함께 한다. 카미의 세밀하고 복잡한 작품들은 도구들의 혼합으로 만들어지며, 작가는 조립된 네온 튜브의 광채 속에 자신만의 'PLAYGROUND'를 투영한다. Kami's PLAYGROUND is a freer, more limitless artistic gathering space where the boundaries between music, fine art, and design become irrelevant. Kami's work began in the early 2000s when he was DJing around the world and developing his own graphic signature utilizing spray cans, markers, and computer graphics. Eventually, his talents were used to create logos and artwork for other artists and DJ friends, as well as clubs and festivals. Now a Berlin-based art director and designer, Kami continues his work by adopting the street art sticker tag "YOU KNOW ME WELL". He combines collages based on pop culture and Asian lucky symbolism with neon tubes. In Kami's work, anime characters from games and cartoons that were popular in the 2000s form a cluster. The artist's method of creating new images by cutting out and collaging various anime characters according to her own preferences and tastes is in line with the creative aesthetic of hip-hop, which uses techniques such as sampling, in which existing sound sources are partially copied, and cut-and-paste, in which rap and sound effects are added to them to create new music through cross-breeding and mixing. Kami's detailed and intricate works are created with a mix of tools, and the artist projects his own PLAYGROUND in the glow of assembled neon tubes. 2022년 1월, 새로운 시작을 앞둔 클램프 갤러리는 독창성을 한계 없이 수용하는 자신의 놀이터에서 작업한 베리킴과 카미가 참여하는 본 전시를 필두로 현시대의 고민, 요구, 그리고 소망을 반영한 다양한 기획을 통해 많은 작가들이 그들의 유쾌한 상상을 현실로 구체화하고, 작가와 관람객 모두가 즐길 수 있는 '놀이터'를 마련하기를 바란다. As Clamp Gallery prepares for a new beginning in January 2022, we hope that through various projects reflecting the concerns, needs, and wishes of the present day, including this exhibition featuring Berikim and Kami, who worked in their own playgrounds that embrace creativity without limits, many artists will be able to materialize their playful imaginations into reality and create a 'playground' that both artists and visitors can enjoy.
