뉴욕 할렘에서 태어나고 자란 존 페렐로는 1963년 장 미셸 바스키아, 키이스 해링 등의 초기 뉴욕 거리 예술에 큰 영향을 받아 '존 원'이라는 예명으로 그래피티 경력을 시작했다. 존원은 역동적이고 거친 붓질, 물방울, 패턴으로 뉴욕의 지하철, 벽 등을 특유의 화려한 추상화 스타일로 그렸다. 1987년 프랑스로 이주한 존원은 그래피티를 캔버스에 옮긴 작품으로 파리 예술가들 사이에서 인정받기 시작했으며, 특히 1993년 당시 파리의 예술가들의 불법 거주지였던 에페메랄 병원에서 그린 '매치 포인트'는 아트큐리얼 경매에서 당시 프랑스 그래피티 작가로는 사상 최고가에 낙찰되었다. 그래피티 영역을 넘어 세계적인 아티스트로 인정받은 존원은 2015년 프랑스 최고 영예인 레지옹 도뇌르 문화 예술 훈장을 수상할 예정이다. 에어프랑스, LG, 페리에, 롤스로이스 등 글로벌 브랜드와 협업한 존원의 작품은 예술계를 넘어 문화 전반에 지대한 영향을 미치고 있다.

 Born and raised in Harlem, New York, John Perello began his graffiti career in 1963 under the artist name JonOne, heavily influenced by early New York street art by the likes of Jean Michel Basquiat and Kieth Haring. JonOne's dynamic, wild brushstrokes, drips, and patterns painted the city's subways, walls, and more in his signature style of colorful abstraction. After moving to France in 1987, JonOne began to gain recognition among Parisian artists for his graffiti translations to canvas, most notably his 1993 painting "Match Point" at Hospital Ephemeral, an illegal residence for artists in Paris at the time, which was sold at Artcurial auction for a record-breaking price for a graffiti artist in France at the time. Recognized as an international artist beyond the graffiti scene, JonOne will be awarded France's highest honor, the Legion of Honor for Culture and the Arts, in 2015. Collaborating with global brands such as Air France, LG, Perrier, and Rolls-Royce, JonOne's work goes beyond the art world and has a profound impact on culture in general.
